A Smarter, Safer School Zone Starts Now Image

The City of Doral is continuing its commitment to improving safety around school zones through the School Zone Speed Detection System (RedSpeed) program, which helps reduce speeding near schools and protect students, families, and school staff. Since the program’s announcement, the City has emphasized community awareness and driver education to ensure residents understand school zone speed limits and enforcement guidelines. This phased approach supports safer driving habits and helps prepare motorists for enforcement.

Beginning March 11, 2026, the program will move into its citation phase. Drivers who exceed the posted speed limit in active school zones during enforcement hours may receive a citation in accordance with Florida law.

Schools with Active School Zone Cameras

  • John I. Smith K-8 Center
  • Renaissance Middle Charter School
  • Eugenia B. Thomas K-8 Center
  • Ronald Reagan Senior High School

When Are the Cameras Active?

School zone speed cameras are only active during:

  • 30 minutes before school begins
  • The entire school day
  • 30 minutes after school ends

They are not operational on weekends, holidays, or any day when school is not in session.

The School Zone Speed Detection System is part of the City’s broader efforts to create safer streets and protect the most vulnerable members of the community. Motorists are encouraged to remain alert in school zones, follow posted speed limits, and drive with care during school hours.

By slowing down in school zones, drivers help create a safer environment for students, families, school staff, and the entire Doral community.
