Timeline:

  • Anticipated Completion: February 2026

Scope of Work:

FPL will install new transmission power line poles and perform line upgrades to strengthen the energy grid in both good and stormy weather. Work will require the use of large cranes, bucket trucks, and lighting equipment.

Nighttime Work Schedule:

To meet system demands and minimize daytime energy impact, construction will primarily take place Monday through Friday, 10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.

Traffic & Access:

  • Detour routes will be clearly marked in advance.
  • Access to homes and properties will be maintained throughout the duration of the work.

Questions?

What is FPL doing?

FPL contractors are currently working to improve the resilience of the electric grid by installing new transmission power line poles and increasing power flow capabilities on our system in Doral and Miami-Dade County. These upgrades will help ensure we can provide reliable electricity during good weather and bad to current and future customers in Doral and throughout Miami-Dade County.

How long will this project take?

We began this project in February of this year, and we expect construction in the City of Doral to be completed by February 2026, with the heaviest workload completed within the next three months. Plans are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances, such as severe weather and hurricanes.

How many poles are being installed/replaced?

In total, FPL will install 213 new transmission power line poles, with 102 of them in the City of Doral. These poles will help enhance the reliability of our electric grid during good weather and bad.

Where is the total project going to be?

  • The project started between Northwest 97th Avenue and Northwest 62nd Street, moving west for approximately one mile until reaching Northwest 107th Avenue.
  • After continuing south on Northwest 107th Avenue, the project will extend west along Northwest 50th Street until reaching Northwest 117th Avenue.
  • The heaviest workload is expected to be completed within the next three months.

Why is FPL doing this work?

FPL has a fundamental responsibility to plan ahead to ensure we can meet customer needs today and in the future. This requires smart, long-term investments in infrastructure to make our electric grid stronger and more storm resilient for our customers. Transmission power lines are crucial to the flow of electricity, helping us deliver reliable electricity from our power plants that will be distributed throughout Doral, Miami-Dade County and beyond, as demand for electricity increases.

Why is FPL doing this work at night?

Customer demand for electricity is at its highest during daytime hours; we work overnight when demand for electricity is at its lowest point – minimizing disruptions to service. Construction will occur nightly between 10 p.m. and 10 a.m., Monday through Friday. We do not anticipate any interruptions to your electric service during this work.

What equipment is FPL using for this project?

During the project, equipment such as cranes, FPL-contractor bucket trucks, generators and special lighting will be necessary to access the power pole structures. We understand this equipment can cause construction-related noise and we are adjusting our current work processes to minimize this and any further inconveniences to you and your neighbors. We thank you for your patience and understanding with this project.
