Published on May 11, 2026
After years of dedicated service to our community, Police Chief Edwin Lopez will be departing the City of Doral to assume the position of Chief of Police with the City of Miami Police Department.
Chief Lopez has been an exceptional leader for our city—someone who has led with integrity, strengthened trust within our community, and elevated the Doral Police Department in meaningful ways. We are incredibly proud of him and this next step in his career, even as we know we will truly miss him here in Doral.
During his time in the city, he strengthened our department, supported our officers, and helped build a strong foundation that positions us well for the future. His impact will be felt long after his departure.
On behalf of the City Council and our residents, I want to thank Chief Lopez for his service, his leadership, and his unwavering commitment to keeping our community safe. Our commitment remains strong in upholding the highest standards of public safety that define our city. We will continue building on the strong foundation we have established together, with a clear focus on excellence in policing and an unwavering commitment to ensuring our residents and businesses feel safe, supported, and protected every day.
Doral has always been a city that develops and builds strong leaders, and Chief Lopez’s next opportunity is a reflection of the caliber of leadership that exists within our organization. While no decisions have been made regarding the next Chief of Police, we are approaching this transition with the seriousness and care it deserves and will share updates once the next steps have been finalized.
We are confident in the path forward for our Police Department and remain committed to the continued strength and stability of this essential service.
We wish him continued success in this next chapter. He is, and will always be, part of the Doral family.
