City of Doral Welcomes New Chief of Police Matthew Castillo

The City of Doral is pleased to welcome Matthew Castillo as the City’s new Chief of Police, effective June 15, 2026.

A South Florida native and graduate of Florida International University, Chief Castillo brings more than a decade of law enforcement experience and a strong commitment to public safety, innovation, and community engagement. Throughout his career, he has advanced through every rank in law enforcement, gaining extensive experience in patrol operations, investigations, specialized units, and community policing initiatives.

Chief Castillo is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and is recognized for his forward-thinking leadership style, combining modern policing strategies with a strong focus on building trust within the communities he serves. His experience includes implementing new technologies, enhancing proactive policing efforts, and strengthening partnerships between law enforcement and residents.

As Doral continues to grow and prepare for major opportunities on the regional and international stage, Chief Castillo will lead the Police Department in its ongoing mission to provide exceptional public safety services while fostering strong community relationships.

Mayor Christi Fraga expressed confidence in Chief Castillo’s ability to build upon the department’s strong foundation and continue advancing the City’s commitment to community-focused policing. “Chief Castillo has demonstrated throughout his career that he understands how to balance proactive policing, modern technology, and meaningful community engagement,” said Mayor Fraga. “I am confident he will continue delivering the high standard of public safety our residents and businesses expect.”

City Manager Zeida Sardiñas highlighted Chief Castillo’s experience and leadership, noting his proven ability to strengthen operations, support high-performing teams, and guide departments through growth and modernization.

Chief Castillo’s appointment reflects the City’s continued commitment to maintaining one of the highest standards of public safety in the region while ensuring Doral remains a safe, thriving, and connected community for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
