The City of Doral has once again been recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City USA, marking 18 consecutive years of national recognition for its ongoing commitment to urban forestry and environmental stewardship.

Tree City USA is a program of the Arbor Day Foundation, a global nonprofit dedicated to inspiring people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. Now in its 50th recognition season, the program highlights communities that prioritize trees as essential infrastructure for creating healthier, more resilient cities.

“For five decades, Tree City USA has rallied passionate local leaders to enhance the livability and sustainability of their communities,” said Michelle Saulnier, Vice President of Programs at the Arbor Day Foundation. “Tree champions like Doral are leading the way in a growing movement to shape a better future with trees and action.”

Mayor Christi Fraga emphasized the importance of this milestone and what it represents for residents.

“For 18 consecutive years, this recognition reflects the care we put into our community and the pride we take in maintaining a city that is green, welcoming, and built for families,” said Mayor Fraga. “Trees enhance our neighborhoods, our parks, and our quality of life, and we remain committed to protecting and expanding Doral’s urban canopy as our city continues to grow.”

Urban trees play a vital role in city environments. They help reduce the urban heat island effect, manage stormwater runoff, improve air quality, and support both mental and physical health. Strategically planted and maintained trees can also reduce traffic noise, increase property values, and lower energy costs for homeowners.

To qualify as a Tree City USA community, cities must meet four core standards: maintaining a tree board or department, enforcing a community tree ordinance, investing at least $2 per capita in urban forestry, and hosting an annual Arbor Day celebration.

The Tree City USA program is operated in partnership with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service. To learn more about the program and the Arbor Day Foundation’s initiatives, visit arborday.org/programs.
