In celebration of America Recycles Day on November 15, 2024, the City of Doral is reaffirming its dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship. As part of our ongoing efforts to reduce waste, increase recycling, and protect the planet, Doral residents are invited to learn about the positive impacts of recycling.

Doral’s Sustainability Vision:

Through the Citywide Integrated Sustainability Plan (CISP)(PDF, 3MB) , Doral is committed to creating a cleaner, greener city. Our long-term environmental goals are supported by a variety of initiatives focused on reducing waste, promoting responsible recycling, and enhancing community well-being.

Highlighted Sustainability Initiatives:

  • Plastic-Free Parks: We’re ensuring our green spaces remain free of single-use plastics to help protect the environment.
  • Recycling & Reuse Programs: Doral is expanding recycling options and raising awareness through community campaigns.
  • Climate Action Goals: We are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 10-15% by 2030.
  • Sustainable Building & Energy Efficiency: Policies are in place to encourage energy-efficient buildings and renewable energy sources.

Ideas on How You can Celebrate America Recycles

  • Organize a Family Recycling Challenge: See who can collect the most recyclables in a week or month.
  • Upcycle: Turn old items into something new. You can repurpose furniture, clothing, or even food scraps into compost.
  • Educate Others: Share your knowledge of recycling and sustainability with friends, family, and neighbors.

Curbside Recycling Guide:

To help ensure effective recycling, follow these guidelines from Miami-Dade County for curbside recycling:

What Can Be Recycled:

  • Paper: Clean, dry newspapers, magazines, and office paper.
  • Cardboard: Flattened boxes, cereal boxes, and pizza boxes.
  • Cans: Steel and aluminum cans.
  • Cartons: Milk, juice, and drink cartons.
  • Bottles: Plastic and glass bottles (flatten plastic and replace caps).
  • Plastic Tubs & Jugs: Butter/yogurt tubs, milk, and detergent jugs.

What Cannot Be Recycled:

  • Plastic Bags: Keep them out of recycling bins.
  • Soiled Paper/Cardboard: No food or liquid-soiled items.
  • Certain Plastics & Glass: No cups, foam, window glass, or mirrors.
  • Electronics & Chemicals: No e-waste, batteries, paint, or chemicals.
  • Note: The numbers on plastics are no longer reliable. Only plastic bottle containers are accepted.

Together, we can make a positive impact on our environment. For more information on how to get involved in America Recycles Day and other sustainability efforts, visit Miami-Dade County Recycling Page.
