Crime Analysis Unit
The Crime Analysis Unit (CAU) uses a set of systematic, analytical processes, which are directed at providing timely and pertinent information in reference to crime patterns and trends to assist department personnel in planning the deployment of resources. Patrol and investigative commanders use this information to develop strategies to address any emerging or ongoing crime problems and for the prevention and suppression of criminal activities.
The CAU carefully reviews all information including crime reports, calls for service, arrest reports, and notices from other agencies received by the police department, looking for crime phenomena such as series, sprees, hot spots, and trends. The Crime Analysis Unit supports the Uniform Patrol Division, Special Operations Bureau, and Criminal Investigations Section.
