Doral Makes Parental Leave Policy Permanent

Doral, FL – The City has approved that a paid parental leave policy be permanently implemented for city employees. This initiative, championed by Councilwoman Ana Maria Rodriguez, was first approved back in August 2016 as a one-year pilot to be brought back for Council’s review after evaluating the cost to the city. Doral was the first municipality in Miami-Dade County to implement this type of policy, allowing for new parents employed by the City to receive up to four weeks of paid leave.

“I experienced firsthand the difficulty and strain of having to choose between not getting a paycheck or potentially losing my job and leaving my child mere days after birth,” said Councilwoman Ana Maria Rodriguez. “For me this is truly a moral and economic issue that no family should have to face.”

Doral joins a growing group of other city and county governments like Miami-Dade, Miami Beach, West Palm Beach and Wellington, that are also establishing parental leave policies to help their employees live more balanced lives at home and work.
