Doral Joins “Oktoberfest for Life” Efforts to Fight Cancer

Doral, FL – On Saturday, October 20, 2018, the City of Doral joined forces with the American Cancer Society and the rest of North Dade for the signature Relay for Life event at Doral Central Park. This year’s event was revamped as “Oktoberfest for Life” and included family fun for all. Attendees enjoyed a pumpkin patch, jeep show, music, midway games and a variety of delicious foods. It was truly a celebration of hope and progress to increase awareness regarding prevention, detection and services for those currently battling the disease while also raising much-needed funds.
 
The event kicked off with the Opening Ceremony and traditional Survivor Lap. Then the Relay teams walked the track throughout the day and fundraised at their team booths. A major highlight is always the Luminaria Ceremony, where participants take a sacred moment to remember, reflect, and rededicate their efforts to creating a cancer-free community. 
 
This year’s Community Champion was Councilman Pete Cabrera. “I am very proud to have led this year’s efforts for the Doral Relay for Life team,” said Councilman Cabrera. “As someone that has been directly impacted by this terrible disease more than once, it was very important to me to fundraise for this important cause and work together with our neighboring cities to raise awareness and support those struggling with this disease.”
