City of Doral Reaches WCCD’s Early
Adopter ISO Certification on Data for Smart Cities

Doral, FL— The  World Council on City Data (WCCD) has awarded the City of Doral with the International Organization for Standardization  (ISO) 37122 Indicators for Smart Cities Certification. Doral is one of the first cities globally and the first American City to be WCCD certified under this new ISO Standard, joining an early cohort of approximately 10 cities from around the world committed to harnessing standardized city data to drive a citizen-focused approach to smart service delivery.

“This prestigious certification confirms our continued commitment to transparency, data-driven decision making and the priority of creating a smarter, more sustainable, prosperous and resilient future for our City,” said Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez. “We’ve seen firsthand how the investment in these advanced initiatives result in a safer community and greater quality of life for our residents, businesses and visitors.”

The City of Doral has been a long-standing member of the World Council on City Data, first obtaining ISO 37120 certification in 2017 and annually in subsequent years. The certification process was spearheaded by Doral’s Information Technology Department, with support from the City’s Planning & Zoning, City Clerk, Parks & Recreation and Finance departments, as well as Miami Dade County Fire, Environmental, Solid Waste, and Water and Sanitation. All of these entities played a key role in gathering the data for reporting which was instrumental to the success of the certification process.

“The City of Doral’s track record and commitment to building a culture of data has been most recently highlighted by Doral’s decision to become one of the first cities in the United States – and the world – to embrace high caliber data for smart city development through the WCCD's newest standard, ISO 37122 Indicators for Smart Cities,” said  Dr. Patricia McCarney, WCCD President & CEO. “Doral’s dedication, under the leadership of Mayor Bermudez, is truly extraordinary, we congratulate the City on this achievement and look forward to continuing to support in the data-driven journey to drive progress for the citizens of Doral."
