Raul M. Ubieta

Police Chief Ubieta has over 35 years of law enforcement experience. He began his law enforcement career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in 1981 as a civilian. In 1983, he joined the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) and retired honorably in 2016, after rising to the rank of Police Major. Police Chief Ubieta’s last assignment with MDPD was as the Director of the Miami-Dade Public Safety Training Institute (MDPSTI).

During his career with MDPD, Police Chief Ubieta commanded Robbery Bureau, Narcotics Bureau, Economic Crimes Bureau, Strategic and Specialized Investigations Bureau, and the MDPSTI. In 2006, Police Chief Ubieta testified as an expert at the United States House of Representatives in Washington D.C., on economic crimes issues.

After retiring from the Miami-Dade Police Department, Police Chief Ubieta established a business consulting on security matters for businesses and governmental agencies. In 2016, he was contracted by the United States State Department to provide an organizational assessment on the Buenos Aires Provincial Police Department in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Police Chief Ubieta holds a Bachelor’s degree from Florida International University in Miami, Florida, and a Master’s from NOVA Southeastern University, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He is a graduate of the 227th Session of the FBI’s National Academy. He is married and is the father of two girls. Deputy Chief Ubieta’s knowledge and experience makes him an ideal choice to serve as Deputy Chief of Police
