Schools Benefit from Doral’s Computer Donation

Doral, FL – The Doral City Council approved a partnership with the South Florida Digital Alliance (SFDA), a non-profit organization, to distribute the city’s surplus computers to schools in Doral.

The result is an immediate donation of 25 computers to local schools, with an additional 96 computers to be donated over the course of the year.

The resolution, sponsored by Vice Mayor Christi Fraga, authorizing the donation was unanimously approved by Council at their December 2nd meeting.

Previously, computer equipment was sold at public auctions. The new partnership with SFDA, means computers, no longer in use by the city, can be directly donated to local schools including charter schools.  This will help meet the need, recently identified by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Board, for more computers in Doral schools.

The SFDA was incorporated in 2009 under the name of the Miami-Dade Broadband Coalition through a generous grant provided by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. SFDA collaborates with organizations and community programs to spread affordable technology.
