How You Can Help During Hurricane Harvey Relief

Our thoughts and prayers are with Texas after the devastation suffered due to Hurricane Harvey. Our community, like so many, have reacted with an outpour of support and desire to help those that are struggling to recover from the disaster. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Harris County Judge Ed Emmett are urging people who wish to help affected residents to donate money to recognized charities that are currently engaged in the response and recovery.

At this time, the Florida Division of Emergency Management has communicated that Texas currently has no ability to deal with unsolicited goods such as used clothing, miscellaneous household items, medicine, or perishable food items. When used personal items are donated, this may create a burden on responding agencies, as they must collect, sort, clean, and distribute items.

BEST WAY TO HELP

To help support disaster survivors during this aftermath, please donate money to reputable and charitable organizations. Charities that are recognized by national organizations, such as the United Way (www.unitedwayhouston.org) and the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD) (nvoad.org) are often a good place to start.

There is also the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, established by Mayor Sylvester Turner and County Judge Ed Emmett, that will accept tax deductible flood relief donations for victims that have been affected by the recent floods – donate here: https://ghcf.org/hurricane-relief/

Thank you for your assistance.
