Doral Police Serves as Implementation Model for White House Task Force
Doral, FL – The Doral Police Department is one of only 15 police departments in the nation participating in a new initiative by the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing. Police Chief Donald De Lucca, accompanied by Mayor Luigi Boria and City Manager Edward Rojas, will meet at the White House on May 23rd.
U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch honored the Doral Police Department in February of this year for Building Trust and Legitimacy, one of the six pillars of 21st century policing. The Doral Police Department’s commitment to work with the community to tackle immediate and long-term causes of crime through joint problem solving has produced a distinct reduction in crime and improved quality of life to all of the city’s residents.
“The safe environment our police force provides is critical to the success of our city,” declared Mayor Boria. “From the patrol officers to the command officers, they all put the safety and well-being of our residents first,” he added.
Because of the Doral Police Department’s own initiatives, the Department of Justices’ Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) selected Doral to participate in this new initiative that will highlight and support the cohort of law enforcement agencies that will implement the recommendations from the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing.
The 12-month initiative will help the Doral Police Department assess the implementation of the 21st Century Task Force recommendations, provide guidance and technical assistance on how to apply additional recommendations, and serve as a model to other law enforcement agencies across the country.
