Doral Councilwoman, Claudia Mariaca has self-quarantined since Wednesday night following an event that took place Monday afternoon in which she briefly had contact with Brazilian President, Jair Bolsonaro, to take a photo.
Doral, FL - Doral Councilwoman, Claudia Mariaca has self-quarantined since Wednesday night following an event that took place Monday afternoon in which she briefly had contact with Brazilian President, Jair Bolsonaro, to take a photo. The Councilwoman at no point had contact with the Brazilian Press Secretary which was confirmed today to have tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus).
The health and wellness of the community is the Councilwoman’s priority, as such she made the decision to self-quarantine herself and her family early on in an abundance of caution, despite not having any symptoms. Councilwoman Mariaca did this late Wednesday night, as soon as she was made aware that someone that had been traveling with President Bolsonaro might have the virus. She immediately contacted the consulate who informed her that they were monitoring the situation and were awaiting confirmation from Brazil. The Councilwoman was the first to notify the City Manager of the situation early this morning.
Once the confirmation was received that the Press Secretary from Brazil had tested positive for coronavirus, the Councilwoman decided to continue the self-quarantine for extra precaution even though she never had contact with the infected person.
