Doral Celebrates 2020 Arbor Day with the Elementary Schools

Doral, FL - Each year, City of Doral’s leadership celebrates the importance of trees in our community, commemorating Arbor Day on the third Friday in January, in accordance with the State of Florida. It has become a tradition for the City to donate a Florida Native tree to each Doral elementary school in honor of this day. This year the City provided a Bulnesia Arborea (Verawood) tree that was delivered to each school by Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez and City Council for planting with the students.

2020 Arbor Day

The third and fourth grade students enjoyed presenting poems and artwork highlighting the benefits of having trees in our community.  They also made a pledge to care for the new plants in support of the environment. The schools visited were: Renaissance Elementary Charter School, John I Smith K-8, Doral Academy Elementary School, Dr. Toni Bilbao Preparatory Academy, Eugenia B. Thomas K-12, Doral International Academy of Math & Science, Downtown Doral Charter Elementary and Divine Savior Academy.

The City continues to raise awareness about the importance of trees to its citizens with events like this and through other initiatives that align with the Tree City USA program. These programs help establish a framework enhancing the management of planting and tree care; educating about the importance of sustainable tree management and engaging organizations in advancing urban forestry. It also showcases the pride residents feel about where they live, work, learn and play.
