Agreement Brings Traffic Relief

Doral, FL – Mayor Luigi Boria, joined by Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, District 12 Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz and the Doral City Council, cut the ribbon inaugurating the connection of NW 97th Avenue in Doral.

“Our Public Works department did a great job completing this project, because connecting our roads is a key component to relieving our traffic congestion,” said Mayor Boria, “the key is to build more roads, and to connect the roads we have,” referring to Doral’s traffic solution triangle of connecting roads to relieve congestion, living where you work to shorten commuting time, and commuting beyond cars by making it easier to walk, bicycle or take the trolley in Doral.

“Miami-Dade County is taking a comprehensive, coordinated and collaborative approach to improving mobility for our 2.6 million residents,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez. “The 97th Avenue project is one important step we are taking toward alleviating traffic congestion in our community. I look forward to seeing the positive impact this road connection has for commuters in Doral.”

The $1.5 million dollar road project, which connects NW 97th Avenue between 74th and 58th streets, was done under a Joint Participation Agreement, (JPA) between the County and the City of Doral; where the design, funding and construction supervision are done by Doral and the inspections and reimbursement are done by Miami-Dade. “This is a really innovative partnership between the County and the City. It allows the municipalities to identify county projects that are a priority to them and put them in motion.  This JPA with Doral, is a model for partnerships with other cities,” stated Miami-Dade Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz.
