City of Doral Honored for Performance Management Successes
Doral, FL - The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) has recognized the City of Doral for superior performance management efforts with a Certificate of Distinction from the ICMA Center for Performance Measurement™ (CPM). Doral is among only 11 jurisdictions receiving the honor this year, and the only one with this distinction in South Florida.
"The City of Doral is honored to receive this award and be recognized as a city with high performance management, efficiency and transparency," said Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez. "Doral has been implementing initiatives for measurement of daily performance in order to deliver more effective services, resources and transparency to our residents and businesses, with efforts such as our Performance Dashboard and Performance-Based Budgeting."
The certificate program assesses a local government’s performance management program and encourages analysis of results by comparing to peers and gauging performance over time. Performance management aids in cost reduction, program prioritization, and quality improvement. It also encourages accountability and transparency.
"The certificate program is one of the pillars of CPM," says Michael Lawson, director of CPM. "Through our certificate program, local governments are recognized for their exceptional commitment to continuous learning and improvement. The criteria on which the certificates are based serve as a checklist of effective, results-oriented management practices."
Criteria for the Certificate of Distinction include:
- Reporting of performance data to the public through budgets, newsletters, and/or information provided to elected officials
- Data verification efforts to ensure reliability
- Staff training
- Use of performance data in strategic planning and operational decision making
- Sharing of performance measurement knowledge with other local governments through presentations and other networking.
ICMA advances professional local government worldwide. Its mission is to create excellence in local governance by developing and advancing professional management of local government. ICMA, the International City/County Management Association, provides member support; publications, data, and information; peer and results-oriented assistance; and training and professional development to nearly 9,000 city, town, and county experts and other individuals and organizations throughout the world.
