Doral, FL - The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has recommended the City of Doral to be Tree City USA for its fifth consecutive year. The recommendation was made by Adam H. Putnam, Commissioner of Agriculture and James R. Karels, Director of the Florida Forest Service.
The City met four standard requirements to be recommended for recertification. The requirements include having a Tree Board or Department, a Community Tree Ordinance, a Community Forestry Program with an Annual Budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day Observance and Proclamation.
During the 2012 calendar year, Doral’s Community Forestry Program budget well exceeded the per capita threshold. The City has a vigorous code to protect trees and requires that trees that are set to be removed be replaced in order to mitigate the loss of canopy.
