The Parks & Recreation Department has been recognized for providing outstanding services and amenities by several professional organizations.
FRPAlogo Winner for the Florida Recreation & Park Association Agency Excellence Award
in Parks & Recreation Management – 2014

The Florida Recreation and Park Association’s Agency Excellence Award is given annually to recognize and honor the state’s most outstanding community Park, Recreation and/or Leisure Service agencies for excellence in Parks & Recreation management. The award is the highest honor an agency can receive at the state level. Judging is based on each agency's performance in a wide variety of areas including park development, athletic programming, leisure and cultural arts, fitness and wellness activities, promotion of programs, and citizen involvement. 
Gold Medal Seal Finalist for the National Gold Medal Awards in Parks & Recreation – 2013
Founded in 1965, the Gold Medal Awards program honors communities in the U.S. that demonstrate excellence in parks and recreation through long-range planning, resource management, volunteerism, environmental stewardship, program development, professional development and agency recognition. Applications are separated into seven classes, with five classes based on population, one class for armed forces recreation communities and the State Park System Class awarded every other year.

"It Starts In Parks" is an initiative of the Florida Recreation and Park Association intended to better position parks and recreation in the future to be recognized and supported for the important benefits and services provided by the profession, to citizens of and visitors to the state of Florida. This award recognizes and honors agencies that have been implementing the message in the most creative and comprehensive manner.
