CITY OF DORAL TROLLEY LAUNCHES
Doral, Florida – On Friday, January 31, 2008, The City of Doral launched its trolley thus making history in its fifth year anniversary. The launch of the trolley involved a ribbon cutting ceremony by Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez and the City Council. Present at the launch were also representatives of the Public Works Department and media who were invited to partake in the first trolley ride through the City of Doral.
The trolley will operate Monday through Friday from 7 am to 7 pm and complete a full circuit on an hourly basis. The stops will be approximately every quarter mile in order to encourage riders by limiting the distance needed to travel to reach a stop along the entire route.
During the “Lunch Route” the trolley will travel along the 87th Avenue corridor between NW 41 Street and 12 Street in order to encourage business people to engage in this type of public transportation as they go from their office to their lunch destination. The lunch route will run approximately every 20 minutes.
The goal of the Doral Trolley route is to connect residential areas with recreational, commercial and business venues in order to facilitate mobility and pedestrian activity through the City of Doral during peak traffic times, thus alleviating congestion and pollution and making Doral the best place to Live, Work, Play and Learn.
“In this 5th year anniversary of the City of Doral, it is with a great sense of accomplishment that the Doral City Council and I are able to launch the City of Doral trolley which marks the culmination of our efforts to institute a municipal transportation system in Doral. We will be evaluating the route for a couple of weeks and re-assessing where and when the greatest use takes place so that we can make the necessary adjustments to meet the needs of our residents,” remarked Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez.
For Kristofer Mueller, a freshman at Ronald W. Reagan Doral Senior High School, the trolley represents a great way to get home after tennis and football practice at school.
